Volkswagen has released the first official photos of the all-new sixth generation Passat. The B6 (sixth generation B-class platform, also known as the PQ46) has grown larger in all dimensions, offers a range of new powerplants including an all-new 280hp 3.6l six-cylinder and has an overall more upscale appearance that continues the legacy that the B5 Passat leaves behind.

The Passat has grown in size with the sixth generation model to an overall length of 187.7 inches and a width of 71.7 inches. That brings the length up 2.5 inches and width a whopping 3 inches over the outgoing B5 Passat. We were given a sneak peak at the new B6 Passat several months ago and in the metal the new Passat has a bit of Audi A6 meets B5 Passat meets Chrysler 300M meets Phaeton. Proportions look great on the new car, especially the extra width which give the car a much better stance - the car actually looks much wider than these photos show it. Full Story @ vwvortex.com

I think the exterior is hot.

IMHO the interior sux. Looks like a take off of a 1972 Impala - any one remember those?

I don't know how the wheel base has changed, but it sure looks like the front wheels should be forward at least 6 more inches.

I fail to see the similarity, other than that they both have like, a steering wheel. Yes, that's an interior of a 1972 impala.

P.S. The headlamps on the new Legacy are very similar to the forthcoming B6 Passat headlamps. Just wanted to point it out since I'm sure it will get flagged later on.

I don't really like it, but I'll have to wait until I see it in person.

    Not much like that, either:

I think this Passat definately has winning styling. Having driven the A5 Jetta and being impressed with it's overall quality and room, I can't wait to get my hands on the new Passat.

    Well done VW!

Turq - you're pretty amazing coming up with these pics. But let me go back to that 72 impala reference. OK so maybe not the left hand side of the dash, but do have a look at the passenger side of the dash - hum technically is that still part of the dash? Find any similarities there?

Well, I see some vague similarity with the vents, but not enogh to really say they're alike in any tangible way.

I thought the interior looks much like a 1979 Mercury Bobcat. Kidding.

I'm loving the interior, except for the big crease just ahead of the windshield. I doubt we'll get the euro lighting switch, but it'd be nice. The exterior has grown on me, like a bad fungus or something.

I'm just not crazy about the taillights. Nothing like the Jetta V coming out. Ugh, looks like an elongated Corolla. All in all, I will be getting a new PQ46 Passat in a year or so.
