I dont think this is a prototype.

Ah the Nürburgring – it’s so intense the Automakers just can’t resist taking prototypes there for testing, yet so enthusiast-oriented that anyone can pay per lap to race around the fabled course. Some lapping the “Green Hell” also stop to take a few photos, which is exactly what RS6.com administrator Erik B did recently - thus nabbing some fine shots of what most believe to be the new C6-based S6 in testing.
It’s not often you see an A6 painted in what appears to be Sprint Blue Pearl Effect, typically a color reserved for the S4. Color was one indicator that this is Audi’s next S-car, though other indicators include the car’s bumper treatment that is quite similar to the A6 4.2 S-line – consistent with what we’ve heard the car will wear. Note the more aggressive grille similar to that of the S4, the lower air ducts rather than flat plastic and foglights on the front fascia. This test car also has menacing quad exhaust tips like the S4, and most unlike the dual tips on the A6 4.2.

Of course, if none of that convinces you it’s an S6 test mule, the “IN” registration tags for Ingolstadt and the antenna might help, though the sound we’re told was the clincher.
Erik reported that the exhaust note was “amazing” and probably a V10, which is again consistent with rumors we’ve heard. He also noted several other V10s were on the track that day, including an M6 and a Gallardo. Apparently he attended on an industry day, you’ll note the probable BMW Z4 M being overtaken in some photos by the S6 with the telltale M registration tags that confirm it’s at least from Munich so most likely a BMW prototype.

We’ve heard other reports that this or other S6 prototypes have been cruising around Ingolstadt for some time now. The exhaust note is again noted to be the dead giveaway as to what the Audi is hiding underneath its bonnet.
Rumors we’ve heard say the S6 will be introduced with the 5.2-liter V10 shared with the Lamborghini Gallardo, rated at 440-hp for this application and mated to a 6-speed Tiptronic. A 7-speed version of Audi’s very impressive DSG dual clutch manumatic could also be in the cards according to rumors we’ve heard, though we’ve been unable to confirm that with anyone in Ingolstadt or Auburn Hills.

definitely!!!.... although Audi probably doesn't have an off-the-shelf manual trans for this beast that could take all that power/torque... autos (in general) tend to be more "beefy"...
it's not like a Lambo trans would bolt right in - COMPLETELY different engine/trans layout in the A6 vs a Gallardo...

the color seems to be a dead give away. audi seems to be pushing the envelope since bmw continues to make wonderful engines but wierd looking cars.
