I thought VW decided not to use the Bluetec name?
#1
I found this on my credit union's website. They offer "private leases" and on their website is a payment calculator...which happened to have the MSRPs for the new Jetta TDI Bluetecs on it...
2008 Volkswagen Jetta 4d Sdn 2.0T TDI SE MT
MSRP: $21630 Base
MSRP: $22530 w/ Sunroof2008 Volkswagen Jetta 4d Sdn 2.0T TDI SE AT
MSRP: $22705 Base
MSRP: $23605 w/ Sunroof2008 Volkswagen Jetta 4d Sdn 2.0T TDI SEL
MSRP: $25465 Base
MSRP: $27215 w/ Navigation
It's listing the sunroof as the only option on the SE (besides MT/AT), and the only option on the SEL is Navigation, AT is standard on the SEL.

that seems like an oddly reasonable price....
#4
That's $900 cheaper than the 2006.0, and about $2000 cheaper than the 2006.5, folks...And, SE is a comparable trim to Package 1 for 2006 - and the 2006 base prices are Package 0!
Sucks that the DSG is the only transmission on the SEL, though.

Advertising a "Base" price is one thing, actually having a good selection of "Base" models is something entirely different. Time will tell how this plays out.

Cue the ADM's!I've seen dealers asking close to $40,000 for fully-optioned 2006 TDI's. I predict a $4000 ADM on the new TDI.

Wow these prices are reasonable, it makes me think the rumored Rabbit TDI will be just as reasonable. My dealer always had a good selection of package 0 TDI's - I had to order my fully loaded 06 with Nav, those were rare, not the base TDI's.
Would there happen to be a Rabbit TDI on your list?

They better hope gas prices go up. It's as cheap as 2.54 for regular around here. As long as there isn't a "3" in front of the price of gas, you're not going to get irrational buyers spending thousands on a new car to save hundreds on fuel cost. Plus, TDI doesn't have the brand cache of a Prius Hybrid which buyers use as a green fashion accessory.

Is the Pruis' Smug-box cache an advantage? Who cares. VW will sell every single one they decide to send here.

Rumor has it that the Jetta SportWagon will cost $1000 more than an equivalently equipped Jetta sedan.

So? TDIs are not purchased as fashion accessories anyway.

are they coming to california? previous models can only sell here as used cars.

My point is that without some outside market factor pushing buyers way into the irrational mode of buying, TDI's won't be selling for $4,000 over MSRP. Either the cost of fuel needs to go much higher than it is today, or people need to see some other sort of intrinsic benefit, like the green/celebrity effect the Prius has.

There are other reasons that people may choose the Prius. The Prius has more interior room than the Jetta sedan, and most people trust Toyota reliability more than VW reliability.
Now, the Jetta wagon TDI may be a hot commodity, since it the number of wagons with good fuel economy in the US is vanishingly small since nearly every car company has taken to pushing gas guzzling SUVs instead of wagons.

Why in the world VW didn't introduce Diesel with release of new MK5 and Passat just blows my mind.Whatever

They DID release a diesel with the Mk5, the 2005.5 Jetta was available with the 2.5 or the TDI.
#25
the question is, will these AT transmissions be DSG or triptronic?still thats a very reasonable price especially considering the power and fuel economy it gives.
#26
I think of H2O for the the color blue so neither bluetec/bluemotion sound like good names to me for a TDI.![]()

They're DSG, I don't see why they'd step back, and the 3.2 VR6 has more torque (granted, depending on the numbers I've heard, as little as 1 ft-lbf more) and works fine with the DSG.
#28
well thats good news.I wasn't worried about the torque, just curious if they would go with it as it is a more advanced and probably more expensive transmission.
#29
Well, they have in the past, is the thing - in fact, in North America, the DSG debuted on three cars - the 2004 R32, the 2004 TT 3.2, and the 2004 New Beetle TDI.
#30
what power numbers can we expect from these cars?
