I've always liked the look of these cars. They look like they'd be tons of fun with about 130-150 hp. I'd test drive it if I were looking for a new car immediately and it were here.
The Swift we get is a re-badged Chevy Aveo. It definately does not look like that beauty in the pics.
It's sold in Canada as the Suzuki Swift, Chevrolet Aveo and Pontiac Wave. We'll just have to wait and see of this all-new Swift goes on sale here as well (I don't see why it wouldn't)

I'd love to know how you determined the soul coefficient of a car through online photos.
Methinks GM won't replace the Daewoo Swift with a Suzuki Swift as they need to keep any market open that will buy their well-intended but second-rate products.
Of the upcoming small hatches (Versa, Jazz/Fit, Yaris), the real Suzuki Swift looks like it would be the most entertaining. Tiff drove a 1.3L 93hp model on last week's Fifth Gear and quite liked it. Shame we likely won't have a chance to enjoy it here.

This is why GM sucks, in Japan, Suzuki offers this Swift Sport. All we get is the crappy Aveo trim.
Bzzzzz. Wrong. GM had nothing to do with the decision not to import the new Swift. The Suzuki USA dealers were asked early in development if they wanted the car, to which they replied no. Then they saw the completed car and wanted it imediately. Unfortunately for them and for us, it was (is) too late to get the car modifed and approved for North America. We'll see a new Swift when the car is replaced in 2009/2010.
Suzuki Canada gets lost in all this as they had to live with Suzuki USAs bonehead play, and thus, needing a small car to sell, went to GM to get a rebaged Aveo.
The Subaru is gone, time to start looking for a Tweed jacket with leather elbow patches...
Man, I'd have a hard time choosing between whatever zingy motor the Sport model has or the diesel that's attached to the other end of this tach:

Sweet little car. Too bad Suzuki didn't get to sell it here. I think it, along with the new Grand Vitara, could've finally let Suzuki get some decent attention in North America.

This is why car companies MUST stop the boneheaded plan of having a single North American head office (inevitably in the US), and start having the Canadian operations completely separate from the US operations. Our car market here is substantially different from the US market, and it's about time car makers started realizing this.

I've seen a gasser VW GolfIII in Europe with a 5500 RPM redline.

It'd be like Porsche making a front-engined 911, Chevy making a four-banger Corvette or Alfa making something reliable; it's just something you don't do.

Uh, okay. Never mind that we're almost eight years beyong the MkIII. What's wrong with assuming that a small car engine with a 5,000 rpm redline is a diesel and not a lump of an 8v VW engine? <--- this is me assuming (again!!!! oh noes!).

Yeah. I would probably drive one if it looked like that. Aveo PASS. I guess to me when you are dealing in micro cars it's either going to look "Fun" or "Financially" influenced.
AVEO screams inexpensive car. This Swift is saying fun.
That's My Opinion. (I still wish I could have a 4 door mini cooper diesel.)
